Manishta Sunnia

Manishta works in Higher Education where she provides support to students and academic staff on course administration. Born and raised in Mauritius, her experience as an international student and a migrant has shaped her politics with regards to race, class and immigration rights.

 

Manishta has worked for organisations such as the National Union of Students, People and Planet and served as a trustee for Dudley College. She currently represents staff in her workplace as a UNISON steward and a Women’s Officer. She has campaigned on a range of issues such as aborting rights, lgbt rights and against the introduction of ID cards.

 

She joined the Green Party after Labour’s 2006 introduction of tuition fees. Manishta has a wide-ranging experience in advising Green Party members on equality & diversity policies, organsing training events and supporting electoral campaigns. She has also served on the Young Greens national committee, the Equality & Diversity Committee, founded the party’s BME caucus (Greens of Colour) and is a member of the Green Party Governance Review Group.

Charlene Concepcion

Charlene works in social housing as an information analyst for a South London housing association, where she is also the UNISON workplace steward.

She was born and raised in London and attended University of Nottingham and studied Politics and a Masters in Social and Global Justice. She has previously worked in campaigning and fundraising for several charities and NGOs. As a life-long Green voter and supporter - she joined the party in 2006 and got further involved at university.

 

In 2012 she was selected to be part of the first batch of 30 under 30 – the Young Greens’ mentoring scheme to find and develop the most promising young people in the party. She went on to be Co-Chair of London Young Greens, where she campaigned on wide-ranging issues such air pollution, pay day loans and fair pay in universities.

 

She recently served as Treasurer for the Young Greens National Executive Committee for 2 years overseeing its huge growth in membership and budget and is currently the Co-Chair of the Young Greens Structures and Procedures Committee and a representative for the Governance Review Board. Charlene is also an elected member of Conferences Committee where she has run plenary chairing training and worked to improve accessibility and the inclusion of members at Conference.
